Well said, beginning gives many emotional feelings/frustration but - TopicsExpress

Well said, beginning gives many emotional feelings/frustration but the reward is there around the corner. However beginners expreriences are very very different from seasoned Zouk masters experiences. For me the feelings after such events are not always relaxed and tired because of so much good dancing. Actually for beginner this kind of events are both very rewarding but also quite stressful. We have concentrated to whole time trying to do things correct which are new for us. Basic steps are not yet hardwired in our backbone and all tricks and stylings need huge amount of concentration and even after that success rate is not very high. Sometimes we need to try several times just to see that we cannot really lead it. The amount of concentration, countless mistakes and maybe slight fear of failures make it hard for beginners to relax and enjoy. At the same time as a leader I see so good dancers and I see what others can do and how much they are enjoying it. At least I admire the better dancers and would love to be able to have same smoothness in my dance. Much of the pressure for dancing well comes from inside and not from the other dancers but the anxiety and stress there might be still there. I decided to post this because I believe that I am not the only beginner in Zouk struggling with this kind of emotions. I believe that this is absolutely normal way to react and would like to encourage all the others who might share similar feelings and experiences. I want to be better but the learning process is slow, hard and stressful. I know that the reward is there, but before some level of practise and skill we just cannot achieve it. How many of us were super relaxed while driving car first time? Zouk community itself is not the reason for beginners struggle. All the wonderful ladies I danced with were really encouraging and it was fun to dance. And guys are also friendly and share their tips and are really nice company to spend time. I got valuable tips, smiles and had good time and in parties spend most of my time in dancefloor. In my experience zouk community is most beginner friendly dancing community I have been while dancing for hobby. But the stress is there however and it is very difficult to escape from it. It happened in salsa, bachata and kizomba too. This same process has been part of all dances I have tried. First it is very fun to try in absolute beginners class, then comes rapid learning, learning gets slower and while starting to do the actual leading things dont go so smooth anymore. Thinking what to do, struggling with basics, hard concentration, being unable to relax while leading, anxiety not to perform as well as expected and everything. Then suddenly it starts to get easier. Moves get in the backbones, some tricks become automatic and you dont neet to concentrate anymore for basic dancing. But in order to stay motivated it might be good to understand the process and accept the path. If we stay motivated the learning process will be impossible to stop. And finally we will see that somehow we did it. Then we can be smiling superdancers who are just enjoying the dancing, feeling relaxed happy and tired after dance festivals.
