Well seeing as how i am claiming this is a verse by verse, chapter by chapter study of the bible; when i do things like i did last time & glaze over content that is spoken of in some of the verses - that is considered an error, so please forgive me. In Joshua chapter 2 verse 2 it said that someone told the king of Jericho that spies of Israel were in his town & at Rahabs house in particular. So i didnt speak to any of this which i should have & the first thing i should have said is that this particular king looks more like a governor of that particular town with the suburbs thereof & this particular town does not appear to be the capitol city of a great kingdom on the west of the river Jordan. But the fact that there were tattle tails ratting out the people to the king is something that should have come up alongside something Rahab said that i mentioned a third of (neglected the part where she was talking about the Red Sea standing up on edge so they could pass on dry ground) - this is the verse that should have come out - Dt 2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee. - this promise was being fulfilled in their lives as the people who are not their people were steady talking about them & being scared of them. As a result of me glazing over verse 2 i also didnt mention that verse 3 said that the town guards i did mention were in fact royal guards of the king himself, so most likely the elite guards of the town. Also i paraphrased the story wrong in verse 5 i said that she said they left by such & so route, but what she said was i dont know which way they went. Also i glazed over the part of the verse where she said if you hurry you can catch them. Then i made the same error again in verse 8 when i said they came down from the roof when the verse said she went up to them to have the discussion. So there is a possibility they didnt go downstairs into the house until it was time to do the climbing out the window deal. Also i didnt mention anything about her advice for them to hide out in the mountains for 3 days while the patrol that is looking for them are in the area before they go back to their camp so they are not caught out in the open. All this stuff i missed may appear minor & nobody called me on any of it, which has me a little concerned that the people i am preaching to are not growing into the kind of people i am supposed to be training (anywhere near the speed i would like); as i keep on telling you not to believe what i or anyone else is saying just because we sound charismatic or like we know what we are talking about; but obey Acts 17:10-11 & study the scriptures for yourselves to make sure that anything & everything we are saying lines up with the word of God. All i know is i have seen some major heresies that were started because the guy preaching it had a foundation fabricated out of minor mistakes because of errors like i just did; so be careful & dont say amen to any old sermon, but pay attention so you are not saying amen when the guy gave you a false prophecy. Also the fact that Joshua & Jesus have the same name & that 2 spies were sent out to act like the angels in the story of Lot getting saved from Sodom - gave me a flash of this scripture - Mk 6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; 8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: 9 But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats. 10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. - Jesus sending his boys in pairs of two especially with the line in verse 10 to enter peoples houses to run around saving people in the communities they visit from demonic influence may have been a fulfillment of this story we are going over now, which means that this is a trippy case of a prophecy hidden in bible history. The biggest thing i missed was just revealed to me in my meditations hours after i finished the study - because the sign for them to save her was a scarlet hope - Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. - The scarlet hope was a picture of having faith in the blood of Jesus (her own unborn grandchild, how trippy is that?) just like the passover as if she had the sign in her window they would pass over doing judgement on her house just like God would pass over doing judgement on them if they had the blood on the door. Well this is why many people preach nothing but faith in the blood of Jesus will save us and to top it off they gave her the cord just as God gives us our faith - but the way i see it, that faith in the blood will bring about our obedience so that we actually put the scarlet thread in the window & we are not only saying we will obey with our mouths & that we have faith in our hearts while the reality has no sign of our obedience because God is looking for that scarlet thread to be in the window & not finding it. Mt 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. - This passage is kind of similar to that mans saying The eye is the window to the soul - & it is also saying that whatever is going on in our soul will manifest itself in our behavior. So again that is why the bible says faith without works is dead because true faith in the one true eternal God of the universe & the grace He gives us will give us the incentive to obey His instructions so that we are in the proper position & displaying the appropriate physical signs to be able to be saved. If God said draw a circle on the ground & everyone who wants to be saved stand inside - would you draw a big circle so everyone could join you or a little circle for just yourself? Would you even draw a circle or would you think it was silly? Would you draw the circle & stand outside on purpose? Almost every decision we make in life has the same sort of implications to our eternal destiny as that scenario i just laid out - almost every choice we make has a direct relation to either obeying or disobeying Gods perfect will for our lives & can have the effect of us standing inside or outside the circle. K so next time i will actually continue the study and you can consider this one an amendment to the last one. So until i come back i will be praising God for you the reader who still reads my stuff even if i am constantly admitting that i am making mistakes because in the midst of the rubbish i be speaking, God may have placed an occasional nugget of the pure gold. You really dont know how embarrassed i am right now, seeing as how preaching the bible is only thing i claim to do well. So i will be praying to not make this same sort of basic error again anytime soon & pay attention to what i am preaching & not get so strung out on the headlines i mess up the details, as the details are half the reason we are here doing a verse by verse, chapter by chapter study of the bible as everybody loves to give the broad strokes & talk about the bible out of context in generalities compared to straight through from beginning to end to get the specifics. And i must pray to the one true eternal God that nobody latches onto one of my mistakes & treats it as gospel truth & forms some sort of heretical doctrine out of it - we all have to be willing to be corrected by the Lord & catch our mistakes before we give them to other people & if we do give our mistakes to other people like i just did, apologize & admit it & dont hide it or try to justify it as if we didnt do anything wrong when we made the mistake.
