Well, so far today, Ive been wished happy birthday along with being called a lot of things from awesome to crazy because of the running I have attempted this past year. Call me what you may, but earlier today, I attended the funeral of an employees son who passed away last week from cancer. I can not tell you how much it hurts each time I have talked to a family who was just been diagnosed with cancer or lost a loved one because of this terrible disease. I have met and made a number of new friends over the course of the past couple of years because of cancer, but in all honesty would much rather a cure have been found. Well, with the Snowdrop Ultra 55 Hour Race & Relay and the Chevron Houston Marathon behind me this year, it is time to concentrate on a new goal for this year. For the past two years I have set a specific running goal for the year and thankfully I have been able to exceed each goal. In 2013, my first full year of running, I set a goal of 520 miles for the year and finished up with 1001. Last year my goal was to run 1,240 miles running for pediatric cancer and I wrapped up the year with 1,511 miles. So what about this year? How about a goal I cant exceed! Just to confirm I may need psychiatric help, since today is my birthday and the day after I failed to complete the Chevron Houston Marathon I figured I better cut way back on the mileage this year. I mean, at 58 years old I am not getting any younger. So instead of mileage, starting with yesterday’s 15.1 miles, I will be running 366 continuous days ending the day before my 59th birthday. The only rule is that I must run at least 1 mile for it to count. Now you can pretty well bet these first couple of weeks I am going to be hugging that 1 mile mark and very slow as I work on recovering from these past couple of weeks. Again this year I will continue to run to bring awareness to childhood cancer and in support of the Snowdrop Foundation, but in addition I will also be running for children and families who are dealing with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum. A disorder that has hit very close to home. So with this all being said, I will once again ask for your support and prayers during the year and hopefully a cure will be found in the near future. Everyone have a great year! I know I will!
