Well, that certainly didnt go as well as I had hoped that it would. Suni just finished receiving her first 100 ml infusion of Lactated Ringers solution. Let me draw you all a word picture... The bag cant be hung from the computer desk as I had hoped. The hangar keeps slipping towards the edge and I dont want to risk it falling while Im giving her her fluids. An S hook, over the door-stop on my front door works to support the bag. First problem solved. Hook up the tubing and pull over a chair from my kitchen table to sit in. Get Suni and put her on my lap. This does not go over well with the other seniors. Insert needle (no yelp! such a good girl!) and immediately, Ive got Webster trying to jump up into my lap, getting tangled up in the tubing in the process, Kasea sitting a couple of feet away, watching intently, Shelito barking up a storm, Charlie on the other side of the chair, whining as if she were the one being treated and Skeeter scratching my leg, trying to get some attention for himself. Finish the infusion and place Suni back on the floor. Kasea is immediately at her side, sniffing where I inserted the needle. Webster is still trying to get up into my lap, Skeeter brought me his ball to trip over (I did) and Charlie and Shelito change routines, with her barking up a storm and him whining and crying. And, I get to repeat all of this again on Tuesday, Im sure. Hopefully this will get easier once I receive the IV pole I ordered and can confine the two of us to the closet or bathroom or someplace where the others cant access us during the process. Of course, this would all be a lot simpler if I werent single and had someone here to distract the others while I get this done, but you do what you have to.
