Well, that was interesting. I noted earlier that I have four stories sold for upcoming issues of F&SF. And shortly after that, received an email that said: Why dont you hurry up and die and leave some room for newer writers? I have no idea how to respond. I have no idea if that was meant as a joke or not. I dont know the person, only by name, but I assume its one of those younger authors Ive annoyed somehow. Or maybe its someone whose social skills are still in remission and doesnt yet know that a snarky remark is a lousy way to say attaboy. Ive spent the last two weeks doing various tests that my doctor has ordered -- not for anything specific, mostly routine. As far as I know, Im still fit to be fiddled with. So I have no intention of dying soon, or hurrying up. As I said, I havent responded to that email yet. I think Ill tell this person that I still have three or four more stories in this particular arc that I intend to finish, all intended for F&SF. (The collection will be called The Further Adventures Of David Gerrold.) Not to be arrogant, but what the hell -- maybe Ill respond with, Now you know how high the bar has been set.
