Well that was rather quick. Dear Mr Egerton-Smith I am - TopicsExpress

Well that was rather quick. Dear Mr Egerton-Smith I am seeking these answers in my capacity of a citizen of Stoke on Trent, who is appalled at the fact that a donated building can be sold for financial gain instead of being handed back to local communities, also the serious threat to the unique Minton memorial. The valuation I refer to is the valuation of £500,000 put on the Town Hall, I would like to know how that valuation was reached when a similar building has been valued at £60,000. The freehold was always assumed to be still held by the people of Fenton and that the building was loaned to the MoJ, when and how was the freehold interest transferred to the MoJ, and was there some sort of recompense given to the people of Fenton in the form of rental payments or a lump sum or was the asset of Fenton Town Hall freely given away. Surely the MoJ holds some sort of moral obligation to return the building back, free of charge to the people of Fenton. I thank you for your time and look forward to your kind response. What “…valuation…” are you referring to? I can however confirm that the freehold interest in Fenton Magistrates’ Court is held by The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. How did you come to this valuation and would you confirm any sale agreement whereby the Town Hall is to be sold for less than this. The notification of the price and the lack of consultation of the local communities has not given any time to raise sufficient funds for a purchase offer. I would also like confirmation that the MoJ does legally own the property to enable the MoJ in Chris Graylings words “to get best value”. Value used in this case is a very subjective word, monetary value? Community value? Value of happiness? Memorial value? I look forward to your comments. Mark James
