Well the Legislature passed the Omnibus Education Bill. Now it will take some time to see what it means. I will be analyzing the bill on my blogsite (electronicbonsai) for those that are interested. By and large it looks like the legislature mostly did something right for once, however there is a lot that is still a mess, and Im not talking about throwing money at the problem either. In short, it appears that we are increasing some funding (Im still not sure that is a solution to anything,) decreasing our worship at the Temple of Testing, and backing away even further from some Band Wagon Joining In on some national trends which may have no relevance to anything educational. MOSTLY this is good I think. But check my blog over the next few days as I go through the bill line by line. For your own edjumacation, check out legis.state.ak.us/PDF/28/Bills/HB0278G.PDF which is the final language of the bill passed on the 25th containing all amendments etc. According to what Im reading, the contents of the bill appear to be effective IMMEDIATELY. Which has some interesting immediate repercussions in terms of graduation, funding etc. Does it mean that all the headache, heartache and family stress related to layoffs, HSGQE testing, etc may have been for naught? Could well be.
