Well, the administrators have had another interesting Saturday - TopicsExpress

Well, the administrators have had another interesting Saturday cleaning up after a swath of aggressive and mean-spirited comments. I think we have addressed the source of the problem and removed the ill-tempered comments that we saw. For the huge majority of Facebook group members who post here, I know this is not an issue. But allow me to do a quick review of one of the ways we the admins evaluate the posts in conversations that seem to be getting out of hand. If you read the guidelines that are pinned to our Facebook page, you will see this sentence: “We ask that all members exercise courtesy and respect when posting,” followed by several short directives which include “Be nice” and “Respect others.” If someone responds to a post or comment that you have made and that response is neither nice nor respectful, please please please do not respond in turn with a retort or argument. It does not matter if you are right and you know you are right. If you cannot let it go, take your conversation off the page and into a personal message. We really do not want to see disagreements turn in to arguments. And remember, that only happens when both sides choose to feed the flames. So consider this: Maybe the person on the other end of the line has had a terrible day. Maybe the person has not understood what you were saying. Maybe the person is a troll. It does not matter. Let it go. Exit the conversation, step away from the computer for a couple minutes, and when you come back enjoy a different thread. If you do not respond to what you interpret as a provocation, the conflict withers and dies. It is your choice, of course. But the administrators agree that posts or comments that are rude, inconsiderate, aggressive, mean, uncivil, ill-mannered, disrespectful, snarky or otherwise not nice, will be deleted and the person posting them may be banned without any special prior warning; this is the prior warning. Again, we appreciate the fact that this message does not apply to about 98% of y’all, and we sincerely desire that you have an uplifting and positive experience in the American Pilgrims Facebook group.
