Well the challenge is on... thanks Marci 1. Born in White Rock BC, my first horse that I owned was a 1/2 arab 1/2 quarter horse that I bought for $175.00 which was from the $200. 00 that I earned by working at my grandfathers market garden for two months. The $25. extra was to buy a bridle. 2. The next summer I got to buy a saddle. Started riding in Gymkhanas and light horse shows in Nelson BC which is where we were living. 3.Had to ride to them all as my father wouldnt buy a trailer. The farthest one was in Crawford Bay, which my sister Lois and I had to take the Queens Bay ferry which was 33 km from where we lived it is also the (longest free ferry in the world), We had to hold the horses on the deck while it was moving. Captain argreed not to blow the horn. 4. Didnt have cowboy boots, so had to borrow them from a man that I deliever newspapers to... stuffed them with socks so they wouldnt fall off. (they wouldnt let me compete without proper footwear). 5. Kicked some serious butts got lots of trophies and ribbons then had to ride home that same day after the Gymkhanan at Crawford Bay. Long trotted and loped to catch the last ferry of the day. 6. Dad had to follow with his car and flashers on, behind my sister and I as we then rode the 33 kms back to Nelson along the windy narrow lake road. You cant even imagine how fit these horses were. 7. Dad finally got harrassed enough by friends and neighbours that us girls were serious about horses, so he bought an old truck and built a wooden rack on it for the horses. 8. Started retraining Ex Race horses for Hunters, Jumpers Dressage and Three day eventing. Competed in light horse shows sucessfully. 9. Moved to Creston BC trained and showed Arabs for a fellow, then moved to Fort Steele where I found my dream horse Doc Der Lynx aka Pal while working and training horses and standing stallion Lynx Eagle...at Lakit mountain ranch. Joined a Team roping and barrel racing club, and then after 5 years moved to AB where I competed in Rodeos and Futurities/Derbys. 5.
