Well, the deed is done. All the ewes/ewe lambs/rams are shorn, vaccinated and awaiting lambing to start in 9 days! And yes, when we have all that wool out of the way, I am quite certain that our starting date will in fact be our starting date! It went down to -26 last night and I would be amiss if I didnt admit that it was a bit of an adjustment for the girls...but, with a good bed and lots of feed they are fairing well and adjusting to barn life rather than sleeping out in the snow. 330 pounds of high quality Corriedale wool going to an individual in Alberta and still another 200 (+or-) available for sale. By the way, we tried a new shearer this year, Shawn Fajnor, from Taber, Alberta. I was totally impressed with his work. First, he is very gentle with the animals! Second, his shearing technique is excellent..very few second cuts and its not going to take 2 months for my sheep to start looking normal again!! Third, he has good equipment that is less stressful on the sheep. Couldnt be more pleased. Already booked him for next year.
