Well, the first golf-less weekend is now as they say, In the books. I am worn out with televised football and am now bracing for what is predicted to be a brutal, early winter. Even Copper, the dauntless, noble hound was jilted by the cold as he rapidly deposited his business in the woods and made quick work of his evening walk earlier. This past year, my first as a resident of Highlands has been quite a transition as I left a seasonless tropical environment for the temperate climate of the mountains. The seasonal changes here are so very different from the humid, balmy bay air of Coral Gables, but they add to the beauty of the mountains. From the stark, cold, deathly still, cloudless winter days to the mild sunlit summer afternoons and the sounds of life everywhere, this is a true paradise. I often forget about the complete mess we have made of our country as I step outside of my front door into a natural wonderland each and every day.
