Well the great office yard mowing experiment has commenced. I am mowing my office yard with a reel mower (only human power, no gasoline). I think Im going to have to do it twice a week. I also bought a battery powered weedeater and other tools, but I will try to keep their usage to a minimum and use handheld trimmers. The reasons Im doing this are many, but here is the list of good reasons Im considering: 1). Its great exercise which will make me healthier and I will lose weight. I remember very well my granny mowing the lawn with a gas powered push mower in the 1980s when she would have been in her 60s since she was born on February 14th, 1919. Im 44 and she was in better shape than I am. Mowing this office yard is kicking my butt. Why pay to go to a gym, when I can do this and stay in shape? 2). Im using no fossil fuels. This is better for the environment and my health (gasoline is dangerous because it is combustible, emits harmful fumes when burning, and is even harmful if breathed when it is evaporating.) 3). I get a real feeling of accomplishment 4). It forces me to face my irrational fears (when I was in school I learned that if I could be invisible people might not notice me and hurt me. Its hard to be invisible while mowing your yard with something some people would call me crazy for using). 5). It cuts down on noise pollution. I hate loud noises. 6). Whoops I forgot one. It is cheaper. With no gasoline to buy and no engine to fix or no people to hire to mow it (which cost $40.00 week), I will save loads of money. 7). Forgot another one. A reel mower, actually cuts the grass. A conventional gas powered mower rips the grass. I am told that cutting is better for the grass. Well Ive rested enough. Back to the yard.
