Well, the kids are in bed (still playing though), dinner done and finally a minute to look back at today. First off, the day started out well, SPC hit 1900 FB LIKES ... hitting this number means some random person who has liked our page will receive a 25.00 gift card to Hylete. Awesome Ok, now for the rest of the day. Today was the 5th running of the SPC Amazing Race event. This year was not as large as in the past, but in hindsight, I think it made it better overall. So, first off, thank you to all of the members that formed teams and joined in on the fun. Also, events like these are not doable with out help, so more thank yous go to: Steph Webb, Will Jencius, JP, Kyle Kline, Brett Sepi, Heidi and the Littles. We would also like to recognize those that helped in other ways: drink NOOMA for their donation of their wonderfully refreshing drinks, Dave Beck and The Overlook for the amazing pulled pork and sweet potato fries post event. Thanks to Kent Parks and Rec for the ballfields, KSU Outdoor Adventures for the canoes and kayaks, Corsair Model Airplane Club, Bent Tree Coffee for the coffee sacks, Tree City Coffee for the coffee and patience. We cant forget, Ben Curtis Family Foundation for letting us use their name to raise money. Like events of the past, each team had to complete workouts, tasks and other adventures. This year saw each team complete an initial workout where they had to sprint right from the beginning. After that, each team had to TAKE FLIGHT as we got to see who was a master at model paper airplanes. Then it was time for a little SURF n TURF. Each team had to make their way down the Cuyahoga by canoe/kayak. Once they exited the river, we made them run just a bit. At the end of the trail they had to show their T BALL skills by swinging for the fences. Why? Because no one wants to do 100 Clean n Jerks. (some pretty swings and few ..... not so pretty swings). Next task up, pickup a coffee bean bag with a little wt in it, carry it to Tree City and perform our RAK event. Here each team was required to purchase 10 coffees and donate to 10 random people. Once this was complete, back to Bent Tree with the coffee sack. Oh, forgot to mention, teams couldnt put the sak down or they received a penalty. (some tough people here, never put that thing down, some had it for about 45min) On to the final challenge. Nothing crazy, just raise a little money for the Ben Curtis Foundation. Each team received 1 case of NOOMA, their task, bring in a minimum of 50.00 for it. Suggested retail for entire case, $24.00, so this was a challenge. Once this was complete, back to SPC for some amazing food from the OVERLOOK (Twin Lakes). All in all, just a wonderful, beautiful day. One filled with lots of laughs, cheers, high fives and most of all, friendship. We had a great time, made new friends, got a few strange looks, spread the word of SPC, helped raise money for a great cause, spread awareness and maybe even got a little sun. This event has always been about community and fun. Like we say, this is NOT A RACE, there are NO WINNERS. I think we made an impact today, people enjoyed the day and that is important. I will do my best to upload photos, but Heidi has the camera at homecoming, so I am stuck. Like I said, this event is about community, we like to showcase businesses, features of our city/area and today I think we did that. Here are just a few tidbits: 350.00 raised for the Ben Curtis Foundation (this will feed a few kids for an entire year) 600.00 back to the local community in money spent on venues, products etc. 70 cups of amazing coffee donated to 70 willing souls 28 Amazing People having FUN Thank you again to all that participated, helped, watched, we appreciate. We would like to continue this event, so right now we close another round of Amazing Race, look ahead to next year and see what is in store. I already have a few ideas, they should be interesting to say the least. Have a great weekend everyone!
