Well, the movie Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is exactly as stupid as it looks. It was a spirited effort at re-writing a classic but doesnt seem to know if it wants to be dark and gory (lots of extremities get blown up/blown off) or modern and flippant (steampunk weaponry, dreadful one-liners, excitable budget-Justin-Long fanboy). I think the first mistake might have been getting three of the most wooden actors imaginable to play the leads: Jeremy Renner looks dour even when hes trying to emote. Famke Janssen is irreversibly stuck on the smoulder setting and Gemma Arterton appears to be *programmed* to be a useless, squalling sidekick whatever movie shes in. Peter Stormare was a nice addition as the arsehole sherrif, though. Maybe 6.5 out of 10, for at-least-competent special effects, a consistent visual style and some entertainingly brutal deaths.
