Well the starter is finally out! ( 86 Mustang GT) I only got the top bolt out because it wasnt tightened in the first place. The good news is that there is no doubt that the starter is toast--beyond all means of repair. The starter wasnt exactly loose, but the top bolt was only finger tight. Could that have caused this type of failure? Lots of new parts--looks like it was a pretty thorough rebuild. I do not want to do this again!
