Well, the vote coverage is supposed to start in 10 minutes. Cant wait. For every progressive who isnt sure where they stand, or who supports the No side, I pose this question: how could the devolution of powers be anything but positive? How could the opening that would create a new country offer anything but opportunity to make something better? Why shouldnt sovereignty, or new forms of sovereignty, be on the list of what we currently and already fight for? If the system itself is what is creating the conditions that we fight, why wouldnt we support the undoing of that system? Social democracy is fine when there is no alternative (like, during an election) but, the second that something emerges that could rip apart the chains that bind us to these untenable conditions, shouldnt we run towards that? Shouldnt we support others who are doing the same? Where would you be if we debated true self-determination in Canada? On what side would you be on, in a referendum for Indigenous sovereignty? Because you cant support that, and not expect to see Canada, in its very essence, dissolve. Imagine the possible. Imagine how we could make our own paths, free ourselves from Ottawa, free ourselves from the banks, from Rogers, from the tyranny of capitalism, that ravages each of us, and some of us more, and kills some of us too. Maybe freedom from these forces isnt possible based on some Act passed by a bunch of White dudes (who were deeply influenced by white supremacy) and that underpins much of what we fight today. I started writing with 10 minutes to go and now Im down to 2. Regardless of what happens tonight, take down the Union Jack. It clashes with the sunset, and put it in the attic with the Emperors old clothes.
