Well there I was heading to Tralee to grab some Christmas shopping with Deana and Laoise, when I got a call from Suzanne to say that we had an emergency...a dog trapped on a Cliff in Inch...so that was that...We booted the road with a wheel bearing gone in the car. We found the lovely Michael Fitzgerald. He told us that he had seen her at 4pm yesterday evening, but that the river was way too swollen to risk crossing at that time. Poor man never slept a wink and returned to see If she was still there. He then set about getting help. Suzanne got the call from dog wardens and jumped to action. Tina Walker met us there and we began the hike up the steep glen to get to her...up the Hill round and down across the rocks into the Glen to the river bank. Tina and Michael took off like mountain goats, Deana and I in toe and Laoise bringing up the rear minding little Liam. We could hear her pitiful cries and barks from afar and I was terrified we wouldnt get to her on time. Then the barking stopped and so did my heart for a moment...but it was just that she knew she was safe now...She had seen Michael, and Tina. Michael helped me down and Tina was already tieing on the rope to cross the river. She made it half way and down she went...our hearts stopped as she struggled to reach the branch in front of her. I gasped as she reached it and made the river bank. My God she was fearless...nothing was going to stop her getting to this dog. She forged right ahead with no regard for her own safety...She was However secured to the rope with Michael holding it at the other end. She got to her and crouched down....Sirara as we have called her after one of the water Goddesses slowly crawled over. Shivering and exhausted she knew she was safe. Tina secured the rope around her and Michael pulled her to safety across the river to us.Deana minded her...now it was Tinas turn.. Then Michael threw the rope back to Tina and brought her safely across. We hugged her so tightly, so proud of her ...What an amazing girl!! We made a lead from the rope once we established that Sirara was strong enough to walk after a rest. We made our way back up the Glen and brought Sirara to Danny Holmes in Tralee, where we were greeted with tea and hot water bottles and blankets. He put her on a drip for fluids and wrapped her up warm. He will keep her for observation tonight. No shopping could have given my children the experience they had today. They learned that its ok to change plans for an emergency. They saw the fearless Love for another living being...and the sheer exhilaration of bringing one to safety. Now dry shoes and socks from Dunnes...We can begin again...What a day...Huge thanks to Michael, Kerry dog wardens, Suzanne and her Team on this one...Proud to be part of it.....Caroline Videos and more photos to follow.
