Well, they say if you hang around long enough, youll see most everything. And its happened to me. I read Cory Farleys column in Sundays RGJ...and found myself agreeing with him! (Of course being Cory he had to work in a George W. Bush dig, but hey...). He pointed out that upon graduation, 33% of high school students never read another book...and 42% of college grads. And I agree...thats really sad. One of lifes great pleasures for me is reading. I still manage 2 or 3 books a month. We now live in a time when a smart phone or a video game provides all the intellect a person needs to survive, and so they look no further. LOL and LMBO have replaced Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Stephen Crane, and Mark Twain... (most 20 year olds never heard of any of these guys!)..but they can quote Vin Diesel. Politics aside, (we are polar opposites in that regard), Cory hit it out of the park on this issue.Soon there will be no libraries..all that wealth and knowledge can be packed into a computer chip and pulled up on a Kindle. To me that will never replace the look, feel, and even smell of a good book.
