Well, this is interesting. While in the bathroom I heard a police siren. Quickly then not. It sounded close and startled me. I thought maybe I left the sound on my study computer up and some sort of pop-up (which I have un-blocked since many Mechanical Turk HITs use them) popped up. Then, as I happened to glance out my lanai windows, I saw the back of a man running at breakneck pace through my backyard. He disappeared faster than I could see precisely where. Then I looked out front and the siren was from a real car. And then a second one joined it, moved off, back around. Now theres a helicopter. I hope he ran past my little lake block, because the grasses and mangroves back there might be tempting to hide in. Two Sundays ago a plane crashed on my local beach. Now theres a fugitive in my yard. I get it, universe. My life could use a little excitement. Lets hope he doesnt try to break in my house, old-bungalow frail as it is, a good target for a hideout. Because given the unpredictability of my adrenaline at this moment and point in my life, Im not sure whether Id put a shovel to his head or conspire to help him out. It might depend on what he said he did. Its gonna be fun checking the local news tonight.
