Well, this is the part of running a dog day care that I fear the most. We have had at least half a dozen confirmed cases of kennel cough in the past few days. I would not be doing the right thing by my clients if I failed to inform you of this. Please be aware that this is similar to a cold in humans. It is an airborne virus and no matter how much bleaching is done and air filters changed it still hangs around. Dogs can exchange this at parks, day cares or even vet offices as you cant tell that dogs are infected until they exhibit symptoms at which time they have already been contagious for a few days. Even if your dog has had a vaccination it doesnt always guarantee that they wont get it as it depends on the strain. I truly hate to see any of my pups ill so please keep an ear open for any changes in your dog such as not eating, coughing/hacking and/or sneezing or even a bile type of vomit. If they exhibit this contact your vet and make sure they get plenty of rest.
