Well this isnt until tomorrow morning but time will be short. It feels weird to look back on it already but tomorrow Shayla has her first day of grade 9. A milestone for many, for me it was the start of something else. The first day in a rural school of 300 students after 14 years of suburban Mississauga life. A chance to escape the pitfalls of my younger life and discover similar pits elsewhere in some cases. To find love and heartbreak, some redemption and some self respect. Who I did and did not want to be. To make some of the best friends, some of which I wouldnt know how much I needed until years later. High school is an easy road for few but most of us get through it. I can only wish her the best and hope she can find a way to trust her parents as I was able to trust mine.
