Well, today was Law Enforcement appreciation day and can you believe my wife still made me take out the trash! Yes I know, it’s my job at home command. In the past few weeks law enforcement in general has come under fire with negative community relationships. I have always felt the Tempe Police department has done an exceptional job working with our community but I recognize that there will always be work to do to ensure public trust. Even though the media has portrayed there to be such a negative feeling towards law enforcement, I have had the opposite experience as of late, something I haven’t seen since post 9/11. Almost every time I walk the street, stop in a restaurant to eat or even drive down the road in my crime pursuer with my windows down strangers stop me to thank me for my service. The smiles, pats on the back, handshakes and sometimes even a hug has meant so much to me and my fellow officers. We do not take this open display of thanks for granite as it reminds us and holds us accountable that as police officer we must interact with the community during the good times and be open to developing community. So on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day I say THANK YOU for the support!
