Well today was our day of appointments! All of Dans numbers and levels are good; however, his air leak remains the same. Dr. Wylum has consulted with another thoracic surgeon. In looking over Dans X-ray, this specialist discovered that there are two blebs (air bubbles) on the outer right lung. This is where the air is leaking out of the lung. They figure that the blebs were there during transplant, but were not noticed because the lungs were partially deflated. Blebs are common on tall thin people, which he described as characteristics of Dans donor. The plan of action is that Dan will go back into surgery tomorrow. The thoracic surgeon will remove the blebs and seal the lung. The good thing is that they believe they can fix the problem. The bad thing is that Dan will have to have his rib cut and then of course another big drain tube inserted. They anticipate that he may be in the hospital 4-5 days. I might go home for a few days after he comes out of surgery. God must REALLY want to teach us patience!!!!! I will keep you updated!
