Well, tomorrow is the day of my Qualification Exam. Normally, PhD students take it between 24 and 36 hours. I transferred into the department with 56 and now have 64, so have to get it done. Test is pass/fail and covers information from five classes and all the core courses of the department. Im given a current event topic and have to apply theories, research, references, models, and other info to it in a way that shows I understand all the material studied. If you pass the exam, you are allowed to proceed with the PhD program. If you fail, there is a second chance, but you cannot register for classes until you pass. In my case, because I will only have 1 more class to take after this semester, i would add a full year to my program. (I would have to wait to take the course and only offered in spring). If the 2nd attempt results in not passing, you get dropped from the program and possibly get a Master Degree. PRESSURE IS ON!!! Wish me luck.....
