Well, we experimented a bit with an early setting of Khaki Campbell duck eggs in the incubator. Not a good hatch. Fertility rate not too bad so the boys were doing their job pretty well, but lost a lot at various stages of development due to bacteria. This is due to ducks being such mucky sods. They drop their eggs anywhere at the start of the laying season, so muddy eggs each day being winter laid. In the summer they tend to stay cleaner because its dry and they also start to lay in their huts more that have nice bedding to keep eggs clean. Once you wash an egg, which i had to becase they were so muddy when collected, you invite bactetial infection. Only 20 ducklings out of 116 eggs started. About 30 were infertile, the rest started to develope but only 20 hatched. They are sooooooooo cute though. Grace (labrador) is in her element as she loves looking after ducklings.
