Well, we have an early nominee for my favorite two minutes of music of 2015, from 1:43 - 3:32 of this clip, courtesy of Brain Child (AKA Logan Richardson). I always cringe when I encounter musicians who think that the path to creating a unique and personal improvisational identity comes from avoiding the absorption of established vernacular. I cant say that its always the case, but many times I feel that stance is really Im too lazy to do the requisite homework in disguise. Here we have one of the most forward-thinking single-note improvisers alive - a guy who plays music that, in my view, is as fresh and ground-breaking as it gets - laying down chorus after chorus of ear-driven blues and bop oriented language, sprinkling in some of the Richardsonian musical syntax weve come to know and love, as well.
