Well, were only two months late but here we are! Jonny has his photos online and finally a video to accompany them! Its 2014, but yet London Underground break our modern view of heritage steam on the mainline, by putting on a show! Metropolian Railway Class E No. 1 & GWR Prairie 4574 Class 2-6-2T No. 5521 (masquerading as L150) provide the traction for this special event, the Chesham 125th Anniversary Special. Complete with Chesham Wooden Carriages, which are now based on the Bluebell Railway, this tour recreates the scene that would have been seen towards the mid 20th Century, long before our time. This video shows the spectacle at West Harrow, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Chorleywood and finally at Chalfont & Latimer. Also tagging along in the consist for insurance purposes on this busy railway is No.12, Sarah Siddons, a traditional Metropolitan Railway Steam Locomotive - the only one still be used on the mainline network. One other example is preserved as a static display at the London Transport Museum. Wonderful to think that 53 years after steam locomotives ended their working life on the Metropolitan Line that we can still see this glimpse of the past today. Bravo, London! Thanks for watching :)
