Well, what a huge weekend of lifting at CAPO Nationals. Theres so - TopicsExpress

Well, what a huge weekend of lifting at CAPO Nationals. Theres so much to talk about, so Ill just make this a spiel about my awesome (ha!) weekend and another on the team later. When we got to Bris, I weighed a happy 99.9-100kg, knowing when I travel I generally lose about a kilo so Id have a bit of padding for weigh ins and wouldnt be too far under and itd be easy to get back. This wasnt the case, as it turns out coaching for almost 12 hours the first day and 10 hours the second getting very little chance to eat and running around non-stop is a pretty great tool for losing weight. Add on top of that an accidental and mild poisoning from Thomas, the day before I lifted causing me to physically not be able to eat anything made for a fun day. I ended up weighing in at 97kg and by the morning of competition day I was 95kg and still unable to eat. Throw on a lack of sleep and youve got a recipe for disaster. Obviously when it came time to lift, I wasnt feeling great but I figured Ill try and get done what needed to be done. Squat warm ups actually felt surprisingly good and pretty snappy, but I definitely wasnt in a good way as I was getting headspins at anything over 100kg. I opened at 240kg which was easy enough and got me in the competition, but the dizziness was getting bad. I took 252.5kg for a small competition PR but as soon as I unracked it, it wasnt good. I decided to just go for it and as soon as I started the descent I blacked out, I dont really remember much after that except Gregg Gordon and Stephen carrying me to the chairs and talking at me (thank you both, Im pretty sure you saved my meet). That was it on squats for me. On to bench and I still wasnt feeling too great but I was at least coherent enough to make decisions, so I lowered my opener to 150kg, which was basically a warm up. I took 162.5kg on my second, which again was easy, but as soon as I stood up I nearly blacked out again so I called it there, not wanting to drop a bar on my face. On to deadlifting and Im finally starting to feel a little better, but still havent been able to eat all day. At least by this point its back to only dizziness and no longer passing out. About a week or so out from Nationals, I tweaked my back badly enough that I couldnt set up conventional, so I had to pull sumo, something I havent trained in about 3 years. Warm ups felt solid all the way up to 250kg which was easy, until I dislocated my thumb (thanks hook grip!). I opened with 270kg, which was pretty conservative and came up well enough and solidified me a total. My thumb was still numb and the pain hadnt come yet, but grip was interesting. I took 285kg on my second for a 5kg sumo PR which came up and felt pretty damn slow, despite the vid making it look ok, I also almost lost my grip at the top because of the thumb, but I managed to get it. I went and sat down and promptly blacked out for the last time. That was me done for CAPO Nationals 2014. So in the end I went 240/162.5/285 - 687.5kg @ 97 (Actually 95) for second place in the Raw Plus Open Men 100kg class (thanks Sarah ;) ) and a qualification for Worlds in Sydney. Despite it literally being my worst total/meet for the year, Im happy to of made it through. Thanks Jeff Lam for all the hard work you put in over the weekend getting this whole thing set up. Thank you to Asn Darwin for supplying me with the fuel to make it through. The one Muscle Milk and probably 6-7 scoops of War Machine I had through out competition day was the only thing keeping me going. Ill have a better showing at Worlds, count on it. Thank you to the team for being a pleasure to deal with and making the weekend great Em Rhiannan Lolita Stephen, Atreyu, Wayde Tom. Thank you Talitha for being cheer squad captain again, and being the dedicated DPI photographed and video person for the weekend. Muchly appreciated. Thank you to anyone who helped keep me alive on the day, if I havent mentioned you, its because I literally cant remember, but its seriously appreciated. Time to get to training for Worlds and show em what the NT can do. #AsnAthlete #AsnDomination #AsnFuelled #Powerlifting
