Well, what can I say? I recorded this one tonight, 09/24/2014, but it was written as a funny drinking song a few years back when I was still drinking. Looking back, Im DAMN surprised I actually remembered (or was in ANY condition) to write it the HELL down!! ANYWAY, It kind of has a little different meaning now that Im sober. Either way, please give a listen and let me know what you think, and I hope you dont get too offended by the lyrics. Considering the head space and perspective I was coming from, its actually pretty accurate! As usual any feedback is very welcome and appreciated!!! Twenty Beers Ago By: Shawn M. Ster V1 It started off so simple, tried to drink my blues away Bellied up to the open bar with no one else to blame Out there in the open, but really just that closed I guess you know sometimes for sure nobody really knows V2 Any other time would’ve went about the same You know I would have already lost, but I’d tell you I got game I came alone, I’ll leave a loner, I guess I need to choose Either someone sleeping next to me or nothing left to loose C1 You really should’ve been here about twenty beers ago And hauled me out to the parking lot to drag my drunk-ass home But now I’m feeling nothing, and I really can’t replace Exactly how I got here, and why I’m so shit-faced V3 One led to another and it really just had to be Just give me one, give me more, ’cuz I’ve really got to see The genius in the bottle and the genie in the jar Both got me to the same place, wondering who the HELL you are C2 You really should’ve been here about twenty beers ago To talk me out of doing what I’ve done again, before So why are you just pointing at me, screaming in my face That alone should tell you, why I’m so shit-faced Br Gimme one, two, three, four Helps to keep me down for sure Germs, giants, doesn’t matter It’s why I’m here so pour…ONE MORE… V4 Its the same song my grandpa wrote, maybe seventy years ago Daddy wasn’t having it when he chased me out the door Momma loved me, guess she knew that I had it in my heart The chords, the songs and all the rest that got me to this bar C3 You really should’ve been here about twenty beers ago Maybe I wouldn’t be here right now all passed out on the floor Why do I keep on clinging to liquor’s dark embrace Is it really that hard to figure out, why I’m so shit-faced C4 You really should’ve been here about twenty beers ago Maybe I wouldn’t be just about to wash up on the shore I wish that someone could explain how and when I lost my way And the policeman with his handcuffs out, because I’m so shit-faced
