Well what can I say about the new Hobbit movie apart from it was fanbloodytastic! There were moments that brought many a tear to my eye and others where it had me literally on the edge of my seat. We watched it in 3D too which made it even cooler. At the end of the film everyone gave it a roaring applause and it was so heart warming to share that moment with the cast and crew of this epic series of films. You really get a sense of how damn hard every single person works to create a picture like that and how much of a massive achievement it is when they pull it all together at the end, from the script writing to the set design to the costume design, the actors giving it their all to the process of splicing and slicing and editing it all together. Even more important when you are paying homage to a literary genius such as Tolkien and Jackson has done a truly wonderful job. Ive always been a HUGE Tolkien fan ever since mum played me the cassette tapes of the Hobbit on long journeys in the car. Since then I have been fascinated by the architecture of his mind and how one man could create an entire world; cultures, races, languages, purely from the strength of his imagination and drawing from history. If you dont know much about Tolkien then take the time to read about his life. He was raised by his grand parents, served as a Lieutenant in the army and the love story of him and his wife Edith is an epic one. All in all the more you delve into his life the more you see and understand the inspiration behind his work and how living through the industrial revolution only reinforced his love for all things that grow ( just like the hobbits ; ) I would definitely live in Tolkeins world... in a heart beat. I think thats why I love it so much. I would grow my hair as long as it could grow, pick wild flowers, ride through the shire on my highland pony bare back, walk bare footed, build a house into the land, brew my own beer, be merry and live in peace and harmony with my kin. (And yes Wear flowers in my hair) And the values that ring true in this world that he created are the ones I wish our world could only one day comprehend. That any man, woman or child no matter who you are, where your from, what colour you are, what your belief system is, can co exist and cohabit in peace. Sure there will always be the inevitable intervention of dark times, but ultimately courage, valor and comradery is what should prevail. In this film you see men, elves and dwarves put aside their differences in order to fight the forces of evil and ultimately stop their world from descending into darkness.. Sure this is a fantasy right, I know that, but wouldnt it be feckin amazing if we could actually do that? Set aside our differences? If only right : ) Anyways, it was awesome, thats all I can say and i got to see two of my friends star in these movies throughout the years which has been a joy to watch. What was also very cool for me too was meeting so many of the Wellington, NZ peeps from Weta and all the NZ actors and crew that have been so instrumental in it all. I told them off my great new appreciation for their beautiful country and bagged myself a visit to the weta workshop in April !! Fook yeah! ; ) anyway thats my queue to stop finish my epic ramble as my flight is about to take off. Back to Cali and I am headed straight for the ocean : ) peace out my fine ass people. Big Love ; )
