Well when its your cash, you can make the Son of God and God himself your color. I watched the husband&wife team of Roma Downey(Touch by an Angel) and Mark Burnett (Survivor, Shark Tank, The Apprentice, The Bible.) on both Katie and on last nites Arsenio promoting their new film, The Son of God. Apparently to packed theaters as well. Ive been in a whole lot of homes that had on display, that portrait of Jesus-white man with long hair. And the truth, so I heard, was that famous portrait was actually that of the artists uncle. According to the Biblical historians, Jesus had dark skin and woolly hair. Downey and Burnett sent out a casting call looking for Jesus. And they found him. An actor from Portugal who looks like that portrait displayed in many homes. White. An African cardinal was reportedly in line to become the Pope, before Pope Francis. Can you image the outrage if he got that gig? Can you image the outrage if actors Michael Ealy. Leon. Idris Elba. Chadwick Boseman were cast as The Son of God. Or God. Probably, the same outrage caused when a 9 year old black girl, back in my hometown some years back, was cast to play, Annie. Folks cancelled their season package membership to the theater. Sent death threats to the producer and director and to that nine year old actress. I didnt even like Annie. But I went to support this child. And the theater was sold out. There was another outrage when Robert Guillaume(of Benson fame, and a classically trained opera singer, took over the role of Phantom of the Opera. He received death threats and folks, again, cancelled their theater membership. But he went on to perform to packed houses. Roma Downey and Mark Burnett were too afraid to think outside their box. Too outrageous, I guess.
