Well, you win some you lose some. And sometimes, you kinda do - TopicsExpress

Well, you win some you lose some. And sometimes, you kinda do both at the same time. Im running a giveaway on Instagram today. Im giving away two signed copies of The Paleo Approach. The goal of this giveaway was to incentivize people who have the book (or who have borrowed it from the library or a friend) to post reviews online. Its easy to buy a book, read it, and then even if you absolutely love it, not take the time to write a review. I get it because Im the same way. So, I tried to think of something that would encourage those people to take the a few minutes of their day to post a review. Well, people who dont have The Paleo Approach are feeling left out. Im sorry for that. Truthfully, I didnt really think about that before putting together this giveaway. I do many giveaways: weekly on Facebook, about once every three weeks on Instagram, occasionally on Twitter, and the biggest giveaways are always hosted on the blog (and are less frequent). Theres almost always somebody left out of a giveaway, whether its shipping limitations and people in the US are the only ones who can enter, or the ways to enter involve social media platforms that people dont have accounts on, or the giveaway is for something youre allergic to or dont want, or something like this, where the thing youre being asked to do to enter is just plain ol something you cant do. I do my best to make giveaways accessible to the largest number of people I can. But--and I might be giving away trade secrets here--theres a point to giveaways that is more than just giving something away. Companies that sponsor giveaways, like those you see every Sunday on FB, get exposure, new FB likes and followers, and typically a spike in orders of their product (this is also why I only ever accept sponsorship from companies who make products I like). When I giveaway something that Im sponsoring myself (like copies of my book, that I have to pay for and pay shipping for), its typically with some sort of marketing in mind, whether Im trying to draw your attention to something new that Im doing or like this case, where Im trying to encourage those of you who have my book to leave reviews (which in itself increases exposure of the book, which is why Im doing this). And its hard to structure a giveaway like this to both be super accessible to everyone and achieve the marketing goal that was the reason behind doing the giveaway in the first place. So, for those of you frustrated that youre being asked to review a book you havent read, again, I apologize. And let me be clear: please do not post a review if you havent read the book. So, Im winning and losing at the same time. Losing because of how many of you are feeling left out (third time is the charm: sorry!). Winning because its a huge statement of how much many of you want my book that youre expressing your disappointment! And for that, I thank you! SO, If you would like to enter todays giveaway, and you havent read the book, please just comment on the Instagram post and tag a friend or two. If youre not on Instagram, then Im afraid youll have to wait for the next giveaway on Facebook. Heres a direct link to the giveaway: instagram/p/pYzlO3FCG9/
