Wellness/Prevention: Eye Tests Might Help Detect Alzheimers Earlier. Scientists presenting at the 2014 Alzheimers Association International Conference envision a future where a routine eye test could identify people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. According to their research, the presence of beta-amyloid plaques in the retina of the eye indicates elevated plaque levels in the brain, a hallmark of Alzheimers disease. Using a new imaging technique, doctors could measure beta-amyloid levels in the eye rather inexpensively and initiate treatment earlier in the course of the disease. Alzheimers Association, July 2014
