Wellness Tip of the Day! Source: The Cleveland Clinic Eat your way to better vision with broccoli, leafy greens, strawberries and sweet potatoes. All contain nutrients that help fortify eye health. Protect your eyes with some of the season’s most flavorful foods. A diet rich in colorful produce can help promote eye health and thwart vision problems. Nutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin, found primarily in leafy greens, may help protect against sun damage, macular degeneration and cataracts. You can also get what you need from a DHA + Eye Health supplement like the one sold in our wellness store. The DHA in it decreases risk for macular degeneration. These nutrients — lutein, zeaxanthin, and DHA — have all been linked with better vision, especially in dim light. Broccoli, corn and peas are also great sources of lutein, zeaxanthin and other vision-promoting nutrients. Beta-carotene (a form of vitamin A), found in orange vegetables such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin and winter squash, helps guard the cornea and is essential for good vision. Finally, try guavas, bell peppers, leafy greens, broccoli and strawberries. These are all powerhouses of vitamin C, which lowers the risk of developing cataracts and may slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
