Welsh rockers Man have hit the top of the US singles chart after their 1976 track Something Is Happening was sampled by rap star ScHoolboy Q. It’s included in the track Break The Bank, included on his third album, Oxymoron, which soared to the Billboard No.1 position last night. Man formed in South Wales in 1968 and released their debut album Revelations the following year. Something Is Happening appeared on their 11th album The Welsh Connection, featuring Terry Williams, Phil Ryan, John McKenzie, Deke Leonard and Micky Jones. The band split the same year, then in 1983 Leonard and Jones regrouped with Martin Ace and John ‘Pugwash’ Weathers. The current line-up, based in Germany, includes Ryan, Ace, Josh Ace, James Beck and Rene Robrahn. A spokesman for Cherry Red Records, who recently re-released Man’s catalogue, says: “Things like this are a bolt out of the blue. It’s nice after forty years that the music is still appreciated. Man’s music is more widely available than it has ever been. Hopefully it will help in keeping their legacy alive.”
