Wendell Berry once eloquently wrote that eating is an agricultural act and I, much less eloquently, once quipped in a TED talk that gardening is a subversive act in that it takes power out of the hands of large, powerful things (food corporations, governments, etc.) and puts it into the hands of regular folks. The challenge is how can we compete with those big powerful things and give more little people power over their food, health and pocketbooks. Theres only one way that little folks can counter the power of big and thats by joining each other in solidarity. KGI is engaged in a mini-version of that little vs big struggle this weekend and could really use your support. Were entered into an online giving contest where the winning nonprofit will win a $10,000 grant for its cause. Were currently in 6th place out of about 500 nonprofits which is a testament to 140 individuals who stepped up over the past few days to give $10 or more. Heres the rub: the groups ahead of us are considerable larger than we are (the 5th place nonprofits annual budget is 5 times larger than ours) so we could really use your support. Since its a contest about total donations (not dollars) even $10 is a big help.
