Wendy Mariner, professor in the Health Law, Bioethics & Human Rights Department at Boston University School of Public Health, recently gave an interview with BBC World News in which she responded to questions about some of the legal parameters of governments quarantining citizens, as well as ethical and public health ramifications. She reminds us that when authorities get overzealous, the outcome can worsen: You could see that happening with the SARS epidemic in China, when Beijing said it was going to quarantine the city, about 250,000 people fled. And if they had SARS, they could have infected people all over. Check out the video for the full interview!
