Went and did mite testing today, I used the sugar role method. The highest infestation rate I found was in my drone mother hives, which I expected, I had a rate as high as 2.8%. This is on the boarder line of do you treat or not treat. I will wait one week and test next week, if the temperature drops and they start to slow down in their brood production I will use Oxalic acid vapour as my fall method of treatment. My honey production hives had a infestation rate of .2 to 1%. Unfortunately with them being all in one bee yard you treat all or treat non, drones move from hive to hive taking their little friends with them. I was impressed that a two brood box hives which was constantly producing a full sheet of drones all summer long only had a 2.8% infestation rate. I was honestly expecting it to be a lot higher than that. I was expecting a 10%+ rate. I love these bees more every time I test them. I can hardly wait till next year.
