Went back to my Ortho Surgeon today, was a little disappointed in - TopicsExpress

Went back to my Ortho Surgeon today, was a little disappointed in the news. The X-rays look great and he was very happy with the bone growth. I expected that he would release me to be completely (load bearing / weight bearing) he only released me for 25%. This was disheartening but, he said that when I returned in 3 weeks he expected that I would be at 100%. Now....All the way home, he is in Ashville, Kat and I live in Knoxville, I was trying to figure what 25% would be and how would I know? So, I finally decided that since I have two legs, the left one (the bad one) is only carrying 50% to begin with, so 50% of 250 lbs is 125 lbs on the left leg under normal circumstances, so 50% of that (equals the recommended 25%), so 62 &1/2 lbs is my limit. But! How do I know if I have put 62 & 1/2 lbs on that leg? Couldnt figure it, so...In all of my radiant brilliance I decided that I could get/ give myself a reference point. I decided that I would stand with my right foot on the floor and place my left foot on the bathroom scale until it read 62 & 1/2 lbs. then I would have some idea what 25% felt like. Well now I know, it feels like my left knee is going to explode and the whole world spins, I sure was glad that my wheel chair was right behind me. But anyway, now I have a reference point and I aint going there. Oh, I am sure that over the next few weeks I will build up to there, and maybe beyond but, right now I do not have to worry myself with measuring 25%. no math to be done, no scale necessary. I have also come to the astounding discovery, that I still cannot walk because walking requires that you carry 100% of your weight in each leg 50% of the time. However, I think that with a walker and, later maybe with a cane, I have all of the mobility necessary to be a real pain in the A_ _ for Kathy and others that care about me. So..now I have the best of both worlds. When I need to go somewhere, like Buffalo Wild Wings for, beer and wings on game day I am mobile enough to do so. But! When it comes to taking out the trash and cutting the grass, well you know, how can an fella do that when he is only at 25%? This is going to be fun. Thank You God for small favors. I am a horrible patient.
