Went for a hike in the woods yesterday, and finally had the joy of collecting jewelweed seeds. I had found some flowers, but being unfamiliar with them except through here, I kept trying to squeeze the flower itself. Thought maybe I had the wrong plant. Found another, larger stand, and saw the dangly pods. Touched one, and it exploded in my face! I started laughing, and yelled for the boys to come quick! I decided the best way to collect them was to carefully remove the whole pod, then pop them at home. As a bonus, my neighbors and all of the kids have now been endlessly amused:) Found many, many pawpaws, but they arent ripe yet. Is it possible to ripen them once collected? I know they wouldnt be quite as good, but next to no one in my neighborhood has ever tried one, and its been years since Ive had any. They are still quite green on the tree, about how much longer till they start to ripen? My one neighbor, who is also a woodsman, did find one ripe pawpaw on the trail he cycles.....
