Went for a walk out the East brae today, and it at the ripe young - TopicsExpress

Went for a walk out the East brae today, and it at the ripe young age of 51, it really dawned on me exactly why the Moray Firth has been named in the top twelve of the world’s most beautiful and unspoiled coastlines. Even though town centres are deteriorating as supermarkets force local retailers out of business and its once prosperous fishing industry is only a shadow of its former self - its still an amazing part of the country to live in. Two yerars ago our unique rugged coast stretching from Inverness to Peterhead was rated in eleventh place by a panel of 340 experts in sustainable tourism and destination stewardship in the prestigious National Geographic Society’s Travel magazine, ahead of the Dalmatian coast, the shores of Bermuda and the Antarctic Peninsula. No wonder it still attracts tens of thousands of tourists every year with the caravan sites totally crammed for the summer months. Tourism does a lot to keep our quirky towns and coastal villages economically afloat throughout the year. In Portsoy, we have just had our 5th Haul Folk festival which grows in numbers and stature every year and the Boats Festival, which is only 3 weeks away attracts in access of 20 000 folk over the weekend. In many ways our coast is a hidden gem, as the west coast and the east coast, beautiful as they are too, tend to get more publicity, but I couldn’t think of a better part of the world to live. :-) Who agrees?
