Went for sunset Mass today… it was All Saints day… sigh… how I wish all of my family and friends could have been there. As the amazingly wonderful and dramatically humorous Fr. Gregory mentioned that the Saints had struggled with their own weaknesses and shortcomings, but they choose to rely on the strength of God to eventually overcome their weaknesses… and for some, overcame their reliance on substances!? (that was the funny part) And then he carried on to say that if we only relied on our own strength, ability or methods we would fall back on the weaknesses of our own ways. For being “poor in spirit” meant, to acknowledge that even with our own strength and ability, we are weak, feeble and lame... but the we have to rely on the spirit of God, and not our own “formula X” (I laughed again) to overcome any shortcomings. Just like the saints did… but the saints are what they are today because they gave to God their complete trust, for anything and for everything (of which I guess is easier said than done… ) …to fully depend on God! Hence the saying, “blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.” P/S: Thank you Mom, for reminding me that today is All Saints day! youtube/watch?v=jJBtcgFl0EM
