Went into work extremely early this morning - around 4:45am. I was a little cautious due to some recent burglaries in the area and didnt feel like chancing upon a possible burglary in progress... To reassure myself, I mentality went over my latent kung fu skills just in case... It was very dark and foggy. As soon as I turned in, headlights hit me dead-on in the face. The stationary car facing me was about halfway up the driveway.. Without waiting on fear, nervousness or apprehension to take hold, I literally felt courage well up inside me and I sped up and went straight at him - like in a game of chicken.... Tried to rev my Honda Accord to an intimidating level - but never mind that.... ahem.... where was I?? Oh yes... As soon as I was about to hit him head-on, I swerved around and got parallel...side by side, window to window, good guy vs. bad..... I rolled down my window looking mean to match my sleepy, unshaven face.. OOPS... Needless to say, I had failed miserably to intimidate the officer sitting in his patrol car. He rolled his window down (which seemed to take an eternity), and with a very disturbed, confused, yet friendly expression said... Good morning. I quickly told him I was the owner and had decided to come in early... Oh, and my name is bob... I thought you were some burglers... see, weve been having some problems in the area....blah blah blah... Im not joking, but in a classic thick Scottish accent he said, Hello Bob, Im officer McKinley - hope ye don mind if eye youse yerr driveway to rest a wee bit - meh shifts about overr (I also thought he was going to say something about his Lucky Charms cereal being magically delicious..) We small talked and I said how I appreciated him and the police force. I drove on up, parked and went in to work. I noticed him later taking off after a speeder after sitting there about ten minutes... or he high-tailed it home.... or the hot doughnut sign came on... I dont know... Either way, I made a new friend. A police officer with a top-of-the-morrnin to ye accent..... I felt very safe.
