Went out during the week to scout out the Milky Way opportunities - TopicsExpress

Went out during the week to scout out the Milky Way opportunities around. Weather cooperated and we found a few darker areas between the light pollution sources. If the weather holds, going out tonight again if anyone felt like tagging along. Hopefully, we will head just across the Wabash River bridge on Hwy 62 and go a little North towards Carmi. Leaving about 7pm from Westside Wal Mart lot, probably back in town about 11-Midnight. All you really need is a wide lens (10-35mm - wider the better), a tripod and hopefull a cable release or other trigger. Usually use ISO 1600 +- ,the widest aperture possible and an exposure time of between 15-25 seconds and adjust from there. Of course, if its cloudy or very humid we will have to try later. If you dont want to venture that far, it is relatively safe off of Lower Mt. Vernon Road between Ford Road and close to Mt. Vernon. Should be visible in the South - South West sky. From there you will avoid much of the light pollution from both Eville and Mt. Vernon. These photos taken from Caborn Road (with the barn). One light painted and one actually caught a bright meteor. Light behind the barn is Mt. Vernon. The others were from our destination tonight. The lights in the foreground are oil wells burning off excess gas. You can see how much more visible the stars are from there and we will be trying an even darker spot to get time frames to create a time lapse. I will post again about 4pm to let everyone know if we are going for sure. You can message me if you think you might follow. Might have one more spot in our car if interested or will convoy.
