Went through the book of Colossians today; mainly focusing on chptrs 2 & 3. WOW! I felt like I just barely scratched the surface; One could spend a couple of weeks in these four chapters; So much there. Colossians 2:8, & 13 had so much packed into those two verses warning us (Christians) to vs. 8. Beware- ( Stand guard, Take heed, be Alert to imminent danger because the enemy is lurking in darkness). Spoil you- ( Carry away captive, to kiddnap you for the purpose of sudducing you from faith in Christ. It is not robbing you of a blessing, but taking you captive. The False Teachers were men-stealers, entrapping men into spiritual slavery). Through philosophy- (Love of hallow wisdom; knowledge falsely named). Vain deceit-(empty delusions, vain speculations, hallow sham, devoid of truth, high-sounding nonesense. Which all amounts to nothing, and cannot meet the needs of the soul). After the tradition of men- (Foolish theories of the Gnostics. A contrast between human reasoning and Devine revelation, mans theories versus Gods truth; fables versus facts). After the rudiments of the world- ( Anything in a row or a series, like the letters of the alphabet; elementary, preparatory, and immature. It speaks of ritualistic and materialistic elements of Gnosticism. This is a contrast between the outward and the material, as opposed to the inward and the spiritual). And not after Christ- ( In contradiction to Christ, and to Gods Word. Gnosticism stood in the way of Christ, weakened faith in Christ, and took men away from Christ. Such heresy is best met, not by detailed discussion, nor by bitter denunciation, but by the declaration of truth)..QUOTE SCRIPTURE.
