Went to Banning yesterday. Rock was dry, mosquitoes were serious, river was rushing. Get a climbing permit at the office when you enter, they will also give you a little map that shows what is currently open for climbing. Right now, it is the area by Teachers Overlook. There is a large parking lot at the picnic area, follow the trail towards the river, and you will run into these stairs. The stairs were built the week prior to the recent Sandstone Trail Days event with MCA and Access Fund; they were built by the Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa. Follow these stairs down and you will be on a trail with lots of rock and lots of climbing potential. At least nine people have gotten permits so far and have worked on creating problems. There are people working on Mountain Project pages to accommodate new climbs and areas as well as log climbs on the old Johnson land. Stay tuned.
