Went to a very informative meeting with the Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research. Be damn if it Didnt make me wanna wrap my arms around the gas industry and give them a big kiss on the lips. I hear tell of great economic news and cause for celebration in Pennsylvania. Its so damn rosy we should pay them to drill. EXCEPT!!! they still do not address any environmental issues other than to indicate that they are migrating toward best practices designed to mitigate methane leaks, silica contamination and other air and water quality issues. The message seems to be, trust us, well handle the prophylactic. Im thinking Im not ready for that kiss. Welcome to the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research The Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research (MCOR) is Penn States education and research initiative on unconventional gas plays. We serve state agencies, elected and appointed officials, communities, landowners, industry, environmental groups and other stakeholders. We are committed to expanding research capabilities on technical aspects of developing this resource and to providing science-based programming while protecting the Commonwealths water resources, forests and transportation infrastructure. MCOR is internally funded by the College of Agricultural Sciences, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment and Penn State Outreach.
