Went to five events tonight! A great time at Nudo, where we were seated next to the fabulous artist Tom Norton, whos showing in our gallery and who will be the featured artist at Chocolate Apothecary in December. Ginger takes great care of us and my chicken teriyaki bowl was fantastic as was Emilys unpronouncable soup. Then, of course, we had to have a drink at the Volstead Act, where the always pleasant bartender was able to answer our questions about bourbon. Then a quick jaunt to the Davenport where some kind of Catholic charity function was going on. Tried to find my friend Bryan Woody Walker, who I think was there, and then on to the symphony to see the mesmerizing and super-friendly Sergio Mendes, where they really brought the house down with their Brazilian music. I could listen to the three female vocalists all night long. Then to a Halloween Party at EJ Roberts Mansion, where hostess Mary Moltke went over the top with decorating the mansion and making sure everyone had enough to eat and drink. The live band was the Step Brothers, and they are quite simply the best live band in Spokane if youre into 70s funk and rock. For my final adventure I went to my favorite 7-11, which I love to pop into late at night because the Arabian (I think) guy who works there is so pleasant. He NEVER charges me for any of the food I order. Now I go and get food, like a hot dog or a Monterey Cheese Big Bite because I love the charade we go through. He rings up my merchandise. I notice he didnt charge me enough so I tell him, Is that all? and then he says No charge, Free Big Bite. Tonight he even helped me to my car with my purchases and then we noticed him doing some kind of pantomime with a pumpkin, and we realized he was offering to give it to us. We dont really need a pumpkin but we were happy to accept, since we didnt want to insult him. Then he gave us a second pumpkin, and we have them on our front porch. Anyway, being nice to people pays dividends. I know that if Im ever starving to death or need pumpkins (after Halloween), i have a place to go!
