Went to hand doctor today did not hear good news. Confirmed arthritis at the base of thumb [basilar joint]with bone on bone areas along with bone spurs. Talked with me about surgery which is removing the trapezium and using a tendon in my hand to make a hamock to hold the thumb in place. Recover time 6months to a year. Recommended not doing things that hurt your thumb[right handed groomer] so that would be grooming. They made a new brace for me to see if I could do some work in it with out to much pain. Needless to say I am a bit depressed. My N.P gave me a shot for inflammation and 6 days of predsone so he would not give me the shot in the joint at this time. If I go back in 4 weeks he will do the shot. I am thinking I am going to do that to see if that will buy me some time. Maybe surgery at the end of December because Jan and Feb can be a slow time. Oh dear lots of decisions to be made.
