Went to see “Noah” today. Spoiler alert!!! If you don’t want to know anything about what’s in the movie… don’t read any further. The good news, biblically speaking: 1. There was an ark in the movie 2. There was a great flood 3. Man was portrayed as pretty much self indulgent and sinful 4. The Creator (no mention of God) did make plans to save two of each kind of animal. The bad news, biblically speaking: 1. The cause of God’s wrath is portrayed as man’s failure to care for the environment God created. 2. Noah is much more confused than the Noah of scripture. While on the ark, he becomes sort of a homicidal Charles Manson figure who wants to take out his family because God has revealed to him that they are all as evil as those who drowned in the flood. Shem’s wife gives birth to twin girls on the ark and Noah is determined to kill the babies because they are girls. 3. Instead of drowning in the flood, Tubal-Cain makes it onto the ark and eventually tries to take out Noah. 4. Ham is portrayed as envious of Shem, because he has no wife to take along on the ark. Japheth is cast as a child with no wife. Scripture says Noah’s sons all had wives that went onto the ark with Noah and his wife. 5. There are these giant “fallen angels” characters called “Watchers” who resemble Transformers. They rise up out of the rocks and help Noah build the ark. Without them Noah could not have finished the job. 6. Methuselah dies in the flood rather than dying before the flood came. 7. God does not close the door of the ark. Noah has to fight to get the job done and barely makes it onboard himself. So bottom line: If you want to see an action movie, this one is not too bad - but I’ve seen a lot better. If you want to see a Transformers movie, you’ll probably like this show. The cinematography is pretty good. If you want a movie with a few bible themes mixed in, this movie may suit you. But if you’re looking for fidelity to the biblical record, you might want to pass on this flick. It will just make you mad.
